Eylex launches newly upgraded cable manufacturing facility
Last week, Australian owned communications company Eylex, based in Castle Hill, NSW launched their newly upgraded cable manufacturing facility. This upgrade has been in response to their growth on the back of their success in providing cable systems to the Australian Defence industry and the global market where Eylex has doubled their cable production workforce over the past 18 months.
In early 2020, Eylex were selected by Kongsberg Defence Australia as the cable system provider for their key subsystems of the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) capability being delivered to the Australian Army under Project LAND 19 Phase 7B. In June 2021, it was announced that Eylex was selected by KONGSBERG to provide cable systems for an International NASAMS program.
This critical business has enabled Eylex to further invest in their production capability and capacity, doubling their usable cable assembly space as well as acquiring an additional facility in the same commercial complex. Other areas of investment include purchasing new cable production and specialist test equipment.
Eylex is a quality driven and customer service focused company who pride themselves on the local manufacture of complex and military grade cable systems. Now employing thirty staff, the growth in the business has seen Eylex create and implement a new Training and Development System to meet the ongoing training and development needs of their technical workforce.
Eylex General Manager Ross Stevens, said he was pleased to be investing in the facility, improving their capabilities across several business areas.
“Over the past eight months we have improved several business areas relating to production. We’ve completely redesigned our office space to provide an open plan environment with additional capacity for our engineers and supply chain team, as well as focusing on our production and stores areas to increase capacity and improve efficiency. We were fortunate that a unit in the same industrial complex became available which allowed us to move our service and maintenance business activities to create more space for cable production,” says Mr Stevens.
Kongsberg Defence Australia has a strong commitment to developing a local network of trusted suppliers that we can work with to deliver our world leading products to the Australian market.
“As a key supplier for quality cable systems to both international and Australian Defence programs, it’s wonderful to see our successful partnership has enabled Eylex to invest in a range of initiatives geared towards realising efficiencies and increasing production capability”, said John Fry, General Manager at Kongsberg Defence Australia.
Eylex and Kongsberg Defence Australia have developed an excellent relationship whilst working on both NASAMS programs.
“It has been a pleasure working with Kongsberg Defence Australia. I know that they care about growing the Australian Defence Industry, especially assisting the small to medium businesses like Eylex to succeed both in Australia and in the global supply chain.” Mr Stevens said.
Eylex headquarters is located in the Electorate of Mitchell. Local MP and Federal Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, welcomed the announcement by Eylex of their newly upgraded cable manufacturing facility.
“Established nearly two decades ago, Eylex is an outstanding Australian-owned Defence industry business. This significant investment and expansion is a true testament to the development of sovereign Australian industry capability and the quality of the product being manufactured right here in my electorate,” Minister Hawke said.
